Box Style Cushion with Piping: An Introduction to Upholstery Sewing

Duration: This workshop is two, 4 hour sessions
Date: Friday April 14th, 21st 11:30am - 3:30pm
Cost: $95 + HST 

Pre-requisite: High Beginner / Intermediate. Must be comfortable threading and setting up sewing machine and have basic sewing machine skills.

Learn to sew the infamous box cushion! From armchair seats, comfy sofa's, window seat cushions, to cozy oversized floor pillows, box style cushions create the foundation for a comfortable living space. In this 3 session workshop you will plan, measure, cut, & assemble your custom box cushion complete with a zipper and professional piped edge finish! 

Make a   4" x 20" x 20" sample size or bring your measurements to make a   cushion cover specific to your decor (note: cushions must be square or rectangular to ensure everyone is receiving the same instruction)

We will review foam and fill options in the first two sessions

If there's time you can also make a muslin insert for your cushion filling

Note: Please bring your own portable machine in good working order if you prefer to work with it, otherwise we have one for you! 

 

✂️ Class materials / Supplies: 

Class fee includes workshop registration and use of marking, measuring and cutting tools needed to complete your project.                                                                                                                                                     

✅ Additional items required to complete your box cushion:

Fabric for your Box Cushion Cover 
Quality Cotton or Polyester Sewing Machine Thread 40w or 50w
Zipper 
Piping Cord
Muslin or 100% cotton for your insert (optional)

A neutral shade of zipper tape with zipper pull & piping cord are available for purchase at the shop

We will review foam and fill options in the first and second session if your cushion requires new filling

*Please include your email address at checkout. A detailed supply list including fabric suggestions and quantity will be sent out to all participants upon registration

Purchases made for your class will receive a 10% discount (before HST)

We welcome a visit or email with any questions regarding this workshop and the required supplies prior to registration

Our Class Policies:

Nesting Ground's classes are small and intimate to help ensure participants receive enough personalized attention to learn and complete a project by the end of the session.

Participants must be a minimum of 16 yrs and must have completed our Learn to Sew Class or have equivalent experience for workshops that require the use of a sewing machine.

*Materials and supplies are not included in the class fee unless otherwise stated

Payments & Cancellations:                                                                                     

Register online or in person. Space is limited. To reserve your spot, all class fees must be paid for in full at time of registration. Please note, we do not issue refunds for missed classes. Cancellations or changes must be made 48 hours prior to your first class and we will happily issue a store credit towards another class. Cancellations made less than 48 hours of the class start date forfeit their fee entirely

The health & safety of everyone who visits Nesting Ground continues to be a priority. Face masks that cover your nose and mouth are encouraged but are not mandatory. We ask that you continue to self screen, sanitize and wipe your hands with the sanitizer and wipes provided at the door.
